Is your home 'lived in'?

As much as I adore my mom, we don't see eye to eye when it comes to the neatness of our houses. I like a more 'lived in' look that isn't intimidating to anyone who might want to come in and prop their feet up.

Now don't get me wrong, dirty isn't cute or home-y but a little messy is good for the mind. It's kind of fun to live in a barn because I think the expectations aren't as great for it to be pristine. I mean, I walk in from mucking stalls to grab a drink or something to munch on and sometimes I don't take my boots off when I come in. It does mean, however, that I have to vacuum a little more frequently, but that's okay.

And then there is the whole dog discussion. My dog is part of the family, and that is the case for most of my friends too, but there are some people who still believe their place is outside (my mom, for instance). I have finally drawn the line for Truman though. He can come up on the couch or bed by invitation only. He is still a dog that likes to roll in dead animals and horse manure after all.

So what about you? Do you like a well 'lived in' house or do you like to be in a museum?

(The above picture is from A well traveled woman and I loved it because it has real horsewomen shoes in it.)

  1. My husband and I have had the same discussion - he likes things VERY neat, while I like our house to look lived in. We try to compromise a bit :)

    1. Compromising is the key! It just always makes me uncomfortable when I walk into someone's house and think, Oh no! Should I take my shoes off?

  2. One of the things I have enjoyed about making a home for myself is that the people who come into my home know instantly that they are welcome and comfortable enough to relax. Quite naturally as a book lover I hate for rooms to be centered around a television. Lots of comfy cushions, throws and tables to set things on while reading is my solution...have a cosy chat...or just be quiet and enjoy the company.

    1. Oh me too! The worst thing is to be sitting on someone's couch and not have a nice, cozy throw to get warm in. I also am not a fan of televisions. I don't think I will ever pay for one myself. Poor Chad is going to have to get his own tv with no input from this girl!
